Sponsors!
BAKA now has sponsorship! Sort of.
For those of you still looking for costume materials for Animethon, may we direct you to
the Theatre Garage, conveniently located about three blocks west of the downtown Grant Mac campus. We're going to have a great Room of Mystery there in part thanks to them, so show them some love people.

We're Downstairs Again
Just a reminder that for this week and this week only we will be down in Ed-129 again, but after that it is back to 2-115 for the rest of the summer.

Things Happening! Zounds!
Ack! I would have posted this sooner but events conspired against me. Two reminders: first, today is the swap meet organized by Anime Alberta on campus at G208, which is near the gym in Education South, with signs leading the way. Come on down, there's plenty of interesting stuff to see and be had. The second reminder is that the meeting this week will be in the good room, ED N 2-115, so don't go to the other room as we won't be there.

No meeting on the 24th
This is a reminder that there is no meeting on the 24th of May due to Victoria Day.
So get out there and remember when Canada was part of an empire that spanned the globe by eating barbeque and drinking your intoxicant/sugary drink of your choice.

Summer Schedule
We have meeting times scheduled! Hurray! For the month of May and one week in June we will be in Ed 129 (the downstairs room) while for the rest of the summer we will be in Ed N2-115, (the best room), so double hurray!
I hope to see as many of you out there at the meetings as possible, and if not then have a great summer doing whatever it is you're doing!

Great BAKA archaeology project
Okay, so we're more or less all moved into the new room now, even though we've lost a good two-thirds of the space we had before and are down a chair and the couch. Meetings should start May 10, and I will have a schedule up as soon as possible.
All of that said, we have a lot of old anime in the office. A lot. And since it seems a shame to waste it, this summer we will have the Great BAKA archaeology project, whereby we will see about going through the years of VHS tapes and DVDs that we have lying around, looking for good stuff and seeing what is actually on some of them. If you would like to join, come on down to the office before the general meetings on Mondays and we'll see we've got lying around.

Office Move
Hey all, that was a great final meeting of the semester. Shows should hopefully resume on the 10th of May, but we can't register a room until the 26th.
Now, tomorrow, on the 14th of April, 2010, we will have to clear out the office. If you wish to come out and help us haul away junk, we will be meeting around 1pm for that, although I will be in the office a bit earlier, say 12-12:30 if anyone wants to grab shows or the like before everything gets shuffled off to the side.

Last Meeting and Office
Attention you lot!
The last meeting of the semester will be this Monday, April 12. Come on out early because I have sorted through my 'My Pictures' folder, and with over 7000 images I have selected some of the more amusing ones for your entertainment, and I will begin showing probably close to 5 so that we can start relatively on time. And we will want to start on time and I suspect end late because we should have plenty of good stuff ready for then.
Also, it appears that the SU will be moving our office. The good news is that we will be more centrally located. The bad news is that we will be sharing it. The really bad news is that we will have to clean and organize our current office. Preliminary cleaning will start on Monday before the meeting, and it looks like moving day is Wednesday, April 14. Any assistance with this would be most appreciated.
Anyway, its been a great year, and hopefully we will be starting up the summer session around May 10. Here's to seeing some of you there, and the rest of you next fall!

Last meeting of the year
Good news everyone [/Farnsworth], the last meeting of the semester will be April 12, 2010. So while there is no meeting on the 5th because of Easter, we have twice as much viewing time as we thought we did this Monday. Hooray! I'm sure we can find something suitably epic for the last meeting.

Re: New News System
Well, as most of you probably know, there is no class today, so therefore there can be no meeting today. Meetings start January 11, 2010 and will be in ED N2-135 which is not the good room or the back-up room, unfortunately. It should still serve our purposes, and attempts to steal better rooms will be investigated. The full and official schedule is as below.

Final Meeting
And now a word from your usually sleeping president.
The final official meeting of the year was on November 30, but we will be having a special meeting, we just don't know where yet. We will attempt to steal the good room, Ed-2115, but if not the less good room on the first floor of education is our Plan B, and if all else fails we will take the central area of the student groups lounge in the basement of SUB. The schedule is to be randomly assorted awesome from Steve, so come out for lots of good stuff.
Also, speaking of Steve, come on in to the forum to have a look at his current challenge for the break and see just how well you know your anime characters. Fabulous prizes await.

Voting Time!
Welp, the litmus test has been done, and shows of all walks of life have been shown.
There are more fangirls this year than last, leading me to conclude that either the feeding grounds have been good, or you reproduce via mitosis.
Either way it's time to pick your shows this year.
In the forum, in the BAKA club subsection will be a post called Fall 2009 Votes For Shows. What will happen is that I will put up a pile of shows for you to vote upon, you will get one vote per show (and as more shows get added, the amounts will increase). Only vote for shows you like.
Soon enough, we'll have our shows picked and you'll have a schedule.
Now Vote Damnit!

Welcome to Fall 2009!
And thus the first meeting of the year is upon us.
This meeting is not going to be a standard one though, this will be a litmus test. Yes, a culture dish to see what grows on you and not. We will show a variety of Episode 1's, and, judging on your reactions there and on the forum, we'll have a finished schedule for you.
In any event, welcome to the club, tell your friends, and see what there is to see.
Until tonight all,
Gabe

Ratcheting up the dead horse yet again...
I'm sorry, it's all my fault. Every year the website domain payment is due, and every year I forget to do it. Well, I'll try to remember for next year.
In other news, we have a new adapter working for the new Giant Projector(TM). So things are even more pretty before.
We will start looking for volunteers soon for the Week of Welcome, but that can wait a week or two.
Until the next Monday!

Animethon XVI is done! On to the next big thing!
I'll assume that everyone had at least a decent time there. There was food, cosplay, anime, vending, and all sorts of rigmarole. I myself ran BAKA's Room Of Mystery (TM) and never got a real chance to go outside. Much thanks to the minions, rather the Thugees for helping keep order. I expect that there will be much to talk about come this Monday evening.
That's right, We don't stop! Not even for possible kidney damage. So this Monday the 10th of August shall have the "leftover" event where some of the more oddball bits from the ROM are shown. This is to cause scarring and inflict mental distress upon you all.
You know, build some character.
See you there!

Animethon Loometh!
Avast!
In less than two weeks, Animethon, held in Grant McEwan (the downtown one), shall emerge, blearily, and once again gaze upon the sun.
And we will be there.
As a big contributer of manpower, shows, and other support, BAKA gets the Room Of Mystery in return.
If you would like to volunteer to help out the BAKA booth, be an artist and doodle outside, or just hang out with us (and occasionally be sent on trivial errands) please head on to our forum and let us know this!
See you all there!

Addendum to the PASTA!
Since the BAKA artwork section is almost criminally underused (I'm looking at YOU artists), I've decided that it shall also take photos from events. That way the pictures shall live on! Anyhoo, all one has to do is click 'BAKA Artwork' on the left there, and pick what sections you want.
I hope this encourages more events, more photos, and more artists making art for the club.

PASTA!
The Fancy Schmancy Dinner Event went without a hitch. Over twenty people attended, ate free food, scarfed down desserts, and generally had a good time. We shall have photos sometime soon to commemorate this shindig.
In other news, To Aru no Majutsu no Index will be finished this meeting to come, and we might have something planned for the next Monday's meeting.
Only time will tell.

Reading Week
If I recall the University System for reducing suicide rates correctly, this is the week off that lowers student deaths by 41%.
However since they don't let us clubs have access to the buildings, I suspect that the rate shall go up 13% +/- 2.2%.
As such, I ask that any of those feeling the "Blues" as they were, to please renew their membership before departing to the great hereafter. That way anyone whom fails to turn up at the meetings after reading week will not be missed.
That is all.

Oh and as Animethon is ago for the 8th, 9th and 10th, the Monday following it will be a special entertaining bit with some good shows to impress those who might join the club. So you should be in for a treat.

Reviews better
The reviews section has been thoroughly beaten into the ground. It doesn't look schnazzy, yet, but it is now way better-organized.
Also, if you don't like TRANSPARENT RED ON WHITE BACKGROUND (not pink <.<) then you can now click the 'dark' link at the bottom of the page, which will drop a cookie telling the site to load with an inverse-colour stylesheet. (if you don't know what this means, just try it and see.

-= THE OLD CLUB IS DEAD! LONG LIVE THE NEW CLUB =-
This website, awesome as it is, (and now pink!) was only created because the University's hosting was found to be a bit... lacking (okay it F*@%ing sucked). It would take months to get even the freakin' schedule to be updated. Here we have the ability to change what-for whenever we wanna. But it lacked something... Prominence! The old one was #1 for "BAKA" in google for a long long time (it's only slipped to #3 recently) whilst "BAKA club" or "BAKACLUB" in google puts us somewhere in the top 5 or so. Thankfully, at long last, the old website now forwards here... to this site.
Rejoice! You can type pretty much BAKA in any way, shape, or form and come here. This, plus the fact that clicking on the top leaf in the forums also leads here means that pretty quick this site will be seen more, used more, and thusly added to more.
Plus it's pink right now. I shall see what's up with that. We might keep it as a style type or something...

Graphical Improvement for IE6
Internet Explorer 6 is renowned for it's problems with transparency, image placement, and failing to act like a good little browser is supposed to.
Needless to say, the site looks like a baboon's arse in IE6. Thankfully, through much sweat and sacrifice, the site looks LESS like a baboons arse, and more of a marsupial one I think. There is still image transparency problems, but at least the images are where they are supposed to be, and text no longer runs into the pictures.
As always, please please PLEASE use Firefox, Opera, or IE7 if you must. The site looks all well and proper if you do. We shall continue to endavour to make this site look better on IE6, but it's not anywhere near the priority of things like extra content, shameless advertising, and seamless awesome of integrating the forums to the webpage in varied and bizarre ways. So for all those stuck suffering on older machines, or rented cafe/library/work machines stuck with IE6, please be patient, it'll get fixed soon, or at least look less bad.
As Less as we can do I suppose,
Cheerio.
PS. if you've never seen it,
Here is what it's supposed to look like, and does in Firefox, Opera, and up to date IE7...

BAKA's Artwork section is up!
It's in a rough shape right now, but it does work. So if you have any BAKA Related artwork at all, post it in the artist's corner section in the forum. It'll get to the right place eventually...
Also, The 2DFC Ratings system has been added to the Ratings page underneath the BAKA Ratings. We've only added one year's worth of anime to the section, as 7+ years would likely be a total pain in the brain to sift through.
It's rough right now, and mostly empty, but I'll crack the whip and get the judges to post in there eventually...
