Library Wars

These are the most heavily armed librarians on the planet. I'm guessing Yomiko Readman is their MI:6.

It's a ridiculous concept: bibliophiles with bazookas. But beyond that one leap, it's a straight up relationship/sports/military anime, complete with love triangle, hotheaded newbie, and "You're a loose cannon, MacLean!" moments. Fortunately, it's done well, and the goofy concept is enough to make us forget about all the tropes we're seeing.

A solid middle-of-the road show with a really creative, contemporary concept. (You _are_ aware of all the censorship issues floating around animeville, yes?) Plus, it has tactical espionage librarian action. It makes shelving books EXCITING. And you just KNOW that somewhere down the line there will be a tense showdown wherein a hated government running dog holds a flamethrower to his hostage's spine and screams "STAY BACK OR THE ENCYCLOPEDIA GETS IT!"

Addendum: I regret to say that the show gets very, very dull towards the end as it sticks to its dime-store novel romance plot instead of the juicy censorship debate thing, probably due to self-censorship. Irony, eh?
