Toaru Majutsu no Index
This show has a girl who uses her powers over electromagnetism to turn her fingers into a coin-shooting railgun and another whom is essentially a walking encyclopedia -- of DOOM. It features a hero who, when faced with a burning building, actually tries to call the fire department.
And the hilarity of the whole Pope-class armor thing cannot be understated.
This show _should_ be dull and uninteresting but soars above expectations with some clever twists, great voice acting and, oh, who am I kidding, it had me at railgun-girl. Several cuts above all the other superpowered magical folk shows out there.Pope-class had me giggling too, the phrase just sounds so silly. Go ahead, try and say 'Pope-class' without needing to laugh. You can't, its just too funny.
But yeah, the main character's response to a fire mage? Hit the sprinklers. It doesn't work quite the way you would think, but a hero in a supernatural show with some knowledge of the laws of physics and chemistry schooling a magician via said application of natural laws is something that makes the cold, bitter engineer in me smirk with utter delight.
Really though, the guy should take some boxing or some other arm striking martial arts so that he can use his Hand of Mordenkainen's Disjuction more effectively. It's clearly where all of his powers went, so he might as well develop his use of them to make it more PWNWTFHAX. Of course, given his endemically poor luck, having people try and punch him might not be the greatest of things. Then again, the ability to dodge when misfortune strikes might not undo his bad luck but it might reduce the number of injuries.I have to agree with Brenden here. Pulling the fire-alarm? Thinking through a solution? Realizing just how fraking in over your head you are, and *analyzing* the situation? I like this show if only for the fact that the lead isn't an idiot, just behind the curve on his new situation.
And people are very dangerous when cornered, as Mr. Axel-wannabe finds out in the second episode. And in episode 4 we learn that the antagonists, aside from having no taste in clothing, are just as clever as the protagonists when pushed.
Also, the main character realizes that charging blindly ahead is a stupid plan but it is currently his only tactic so he's kind of stuck. This show had me at the first episode, and reading everyone else's thoughts on later episodes just make me want to watch more. Lots and lots of potential here ~ and it sounds like it isn't going to waste. Another one to add to the list.Yup, everyone in this series is intelligent and capable of rationally thinking through a problem. Including the bad guys. Who we have yet to meet. And we have no idea if they are actually 'bad'.Having watched episode 6 and discovered that said episode is the end of the prologue I must say: we must watch this during regular meetings!
The show... wow, just wow. I would bet good money we could get at least one of the fangirls to cry when we show episode 6, and there will be at least a few exclamations of "Noooooo!" and some profanity.
The next arc looks like it could descend into clicheness, but considering what has already come, I think the writers are smart enough to make this awesome rather than suck.
In short, watch this show!I don't see why that can't happen. I'll talk to JohnYou're not?! It'd blow Special A out of the water, that's for sure.Special A got dropped after a lackluster second episode. Index is in if I have anything to say about it.Unless the writers suddenly change and start making the show ridiculously bad, I'd vote for watching the rest of this series. Seems to me like it has a decent amount of potential. We'll have to see how it goes, but so far it's definitely interesting. It's based on a series of light novels and I always expect those to be good. Not to necro, but this show definitely stays good. And we get a few interesting things in the later episodes.
1) Main character Touma = badass! Seriously, something happens in Ep 9 that makes you laugh and your jaw drop a little when its revealed what really happened
2) More railgun girl!
3) Plot relevant panty shot? More likely than you might think.
