Kuroshitsuji

Done by CLAMP. That's all I needed to know really. While I'm certain there is a good story here, a little too much of BUTLER-SUE for my tastes. I suppose I can give it somthing of a try, but I don't ask or expect much.

A rich boy and his apparently demonic butler in Victorian England. Not sure about the plot, but it probably involves scones.

It’s got CLAMP-esque character design if you like that, and very pretty guys as well. (No sparkles, though.) One of the Three Stooges sidekicks inexplicably looks like Huckleberry Finn. Not much happening personality wise; ditzy maid, clueless gardener, apparently pyromaniac chef.

Then there’s the butler, who plays the co-lead. Apparently demonic, or just demonically skilled, he always has a plan, and could probably school all of the Iron Chefs simultaneously in a cookoff. He’s also deliciously cruel, willing to threaten people with death-by-convection-oven just to mess with them. About the only way he could be more badass is if he had a monocle and a bunch of piano wire, although judging from the previews he makes due with projectile silverware.

It’s a solid comedy that’s worth a watch, but I fear the icy hand of plot hovers just over the show’s shoulders and is set to throttle it with angst in about five episodes or so. It also hasn’t done much so far beyond establishing the fact that the butler is cool and the kid is cruel (throwing darts into people’s heads cruel). It could get ordinary very, very quickly.

I enjoyed the first episode, surprisingly so since I don't usually take to the whole butler gig - but Sebatian is cool and I like the kid (whose name I consequently forgot). I hope the show stays good and doesn't fall into the many traps it could ~ we'll see if it can make something of its potential.
