BAKA - Ratings

Akikan

Kills braincells by the millions, yes. But you just can't turn away as you're expecting the show to turn completely horrible at any given moment.

But then Lelou - Douchebag protagonist gets character development of a type I don't recall ever seeing before in the second episode, and the third...

I'm willing to give it a try, but I won't force it down on BAKA.

This show was..... special in every possible meaning of the italicized word. Up to and including the part he carbonated her by blowing into her. Not my kind of show, I can only take so much brain cell death before my self preservation mechanism starts kicking in (I still have to graduate university after all). I like her fizzing barrettes though.

This show is... weirdly awesome. While true that a couple of scenes are about five seconds short of turning into hardcore porn, once episode two hits you suddenly feel for the main character a whole lot more. I won't give it away, but you get the feeling that his antics are a coping mechanism for severe psychological issues, and that he is terrified of being alone. It also gets serious later on. Kinda.

Also, he flirts with vending machines. The mind boggles.

I admit the show is not without its flaws, however as was previously stated, the show is weirdly compelling in ways a man is not comfortable in admitting, at least not to himself in public.

Human beings on the whole, will happily drive very slow past a car crash hoping to see something unpleasant, and that's just what this is. A car crash of off some, pop cans, and pelvic thrusts.

To expand slightly, while there is a certain harem anime content, it's actually nowhere near what the opening might imply as there are only actually two girls in the title sequence who could be considered to have affections for the main character. For you see the actual plot is more like Highlander in that the evil government agency has decided that there should only be one material standard for cans and that the spirits of the steel cans and the aluminum cans must fight it out, with the faction that survives becoming supreme.

Yes.

As for the love triangle issues, Episode 5 actually went a little bit Nice Boat.

Yes.

This show is simultaneously stupid and compelling drama. And from the actions of the main character, you definitely get the feeling that his overly lecherous attitude is all an act seeing as how he literally nearly had a girl throw herself on him while in the shower and he didn't take full advantage. This is one of those aforementioned 'five seconds from porno territory' things.

I would almost suggest watching the second episode in the main meeting simply because the show is actually surprisingly deeper than one might expect.

If that second episode were to find itself on the Box come next meeting, I can see that happening.
