Kemono no Souja Erin
Given that its the author of the Guardian series, I don't doubt that the story and plot would be amazing. Sadly, the way they chose to adapt it, especially the narration (and its seeming love of ruining a foreshadowing moment by clearly stating it as such) as well as the animation overall just don't do it justice.
