Bakemonogatari

When a crab steals your weight, leaving you with 5 kilos, weighing yourself down with 40 kilos of improvised weapons (and 97 kilos of spite) is probably the best way to go.

Still when an Ex-Vampire offers to help you out, you shouldn't staple his face. That's just rude.

A modern Mushishi, done with a new CG Style.

Errr, what?

I missed the showing of this, but based off the ratings and your description I might just track it down to watch.

Have a link while I do that.

D.

I barely know what's going on. All you need to know is that it's got the surrealistic eye-popping-sharp visuals of Zetsubo-sensei and the razor-sharp wit of Spice and Wolf without the economics. The verbal fencing here is so intense that they can have the characters essentially spend three episodes in a barren park and still make it entertaining. The fact that they also have a knock-down drag-out brawl with an eight-year old is just a bonus.

The male lead is some sort of reformed vampire who still has a lot of the old tricks, such as a healing factor and good hair. He needs both, because his female partner seems to be a borderline sociopath who delights in taking jabs at him, physical and verbal. If every burn she gives to this guy were a crotch kick, his balls would be somewhere in the ionosphere by now. It's awesome.

There's also some seriously weird stuff going on here as well. You've got a girl who's had her weight stolen by a crab, another one who can't find her way home, and....actually that's as far as I've watched but it's quite odd. Oh, right, and in true Zetsubo tradition, tonnes of sight gags. Picture a cell-phone conversation wherein the cell phone, used as a stand in for the guy on the other end of the line, inexplicably starts showing a game of Breakout, a babbling head, random words, and other artifacts that have little to nothing to do with what's being said at the time. This is considered normal for this show.

And yes, stapling a guy's face is rude, even if he gets better. You should use a paperclip.
