Letter Bee - Light and Blue Night Fantasy
Man this was pretty. Pretty and dull. I don't know why, but this show did not "click" with just about any of the judges.
I gave it a positive rating for the art-style. And this was a promo/pilot. In theory this could be better in the actual show.Some kid with a “dingo” delivers “letters” with “heart” so the “kangaroos” won’t take their “dog” to “Valhalla” “misplaced allegorical reference.”
“Why” does this “show” insist “on” putting “so many” words in air “quotes”? Why, when choosing its terminology and proper nouns, does it use such cringe-inducing words like “dingo”? As in, “ate my baby?” And throw them around like elephant dung so they stink up the place, unexplained?
Why does it insist on having long, drawn-out, boring flashbacks dropped into scenes without any explanations? Combined with location changes every three minutes?
Why do the character designs look so generic, right down to the “guy with mysterious past and weird eye hidden by albino hair” and “giant CG enemy crab”?
Why do they use a mail-delivery motif when the show makes absolutely no use of it? (Beyond using it as an excuse to move the cast around? Xa’am’d, anyone?)
Why does shooting the giant bug (of unspecified orgin) with the spirit gun (of obscure origins) powered by the spirit eyeball (of stupid design) release radioactive fallout that causes the main character to hallucinate flashbacks of the life of an old dog? Who’s named Darwin, presumably to kick evolution in the nuts?
Come on, people! If you’re going to use an Asgardian setting with weird names and a mail delivery motif, USE THEM. If you’re going to give someone a red-flag name like Darwin, he better damn well have that name for a reason. There wasn’t one. If you’ve got a cast of letter carriers or librarians, I want to see them either doing postal work (see: Library Wars) or examining the implications of messages, trust, etc. (that show with the letters from dead people).
And don’t name your sidekicks DINGOS!
