The Sacred Blacksmith

Now this is interesting. This is, for the most part, a really good fantasy show. I've never seen a show aside of say the Lodoss series have a decent info-structure. There are large swathes of farms, actual dishes the poor people kept on walls, and a sense of a fleshed out world.

Then it drops Trou and takes a gigantic dump all over every bit of European metallurgy, weapons, armor, and well, decency.

It's great for the Japanese sword Creation process. But it gets everything else so hilariously wrong, that our resident Engineer/Metallurgist was literally foaming at the mouth on the things they got wrong. Hell, he wrote a damn Essay bemoaning this show.

And the saddest thing, the saddest thing, is that the damn weebawoos will think it's accurate and correct.

And that grinds my gears, and boils my, er, dangly bits.

Japanese guy in Medieval Europe shows everyone why katanas rock and why Japanese katana tropes have no basis whatsoever in reality.

If you’re show’s based around blacksmithing and swords, you pretty much forfeit your right to use any of the other sword tropes unless they have some basis in fact. In other words, no, your katana cannot slice a claymore the size of your head swung by a very strong berserk warrior in half, nor can it stop a projectile hurtling towards someone by cutting it in half (see, there’s this thing called inertia…). If your family sword breaks, you can, in fact, get it repaired, especially if you go the “my father’s sword” route of replacing everything up to and including the original serial number on the hilt.

And if you’re in the middle of an intense battle against a six-storey tall beast who’s spamming a projectile storm at you, you do NOT have time to conduct an elaborate minute-long summoning spell that leaves you defenseless!

Also, could you please have your main character NOT give her full seven-minute introduction to everyone she meets? This isn’t Sailor Moon, y’know.

This show tries to live by the trope of super-realistic swords. It dies by them too.
